The modern-day worker spends around a quarter of their day in the office, so comfortable and up to date working environment is important for productivity. We’ve listed 5 ways you can modernise your workplace to maximise the productivity of you and your employees.
Nature
Natural elements such as plants and raw materials e.g. stone or raw wood are not only aesthetically pleasing, they help reduce stress by making us feel more connected to nature, bringing out a sense of calm and helping us focus
Casual areas
Many offices now have one or more casual areas for workers to relax in, work quietly and independently or catch up with colleagues. This takes a lot of strain, repetition and distractions away from employees as they aren’t confined to one desk area.
Change of colour palettes
Say goodbye to the popular Scandinavian inspired colour palettes (eg beige, white, navy) as they are currently on the decline. Colours such as teal and sage are becoming more popular, to mimic nature.
Bold, clashing colours are also making an appearance in many office spaces, as bright colours are proven to positively affect mood.
Curves!
Sharp, straight edges are being used less and less in the modern day office. These geometric shapes are thought to be more minimalist and economical, whilst curved, more streamlined edges are softer and easier on the eye. Using curves in a space can create a calming effect, helping to reduce stress and improve well-being.
Sustainability
With global warming a big issue today, sustainable fabrics are expected to be huge in the next year. There will almost certainly be a sharp decline in the use of man-made, synthetic materials, and we will be seeing a lot lower emissions, animal friendly fabrics like organic cotton, jute, and recycled materials.
The trends above are some excellent ideas to think about if re-designing your office in the near future but remember – your office is also a great way to capture your brand identity! Ensure it remains consistent to your companies image and character whilst possibly incorporating a couple of these elements to stay modern and up to date.
